Using
Checklist on Mac and Linux
Although there are no Checklist desktop and hotsync components
for the Mac or Linux operating systems, users are still able to use the
Palm component. (See the Downloads
Page for a link to download the handheld component only.) I'm not
knowledgable enough about the Linux OS to say much about it, but I can
state that Mac users can at least back up their data during a hotsync.
(If a Linux user would like to explain to me how it works in their world,
that would be great.)
Generic Conduit
Whenever a dedicated conduit doesn't exist for a program,
Hotsync Manager automatically backs up the program itself. Depending
on how the program's data is configured, Hotsync Manager can also back
up the data. (Checklist's data is set to always create a backup.) See
the discussion below for an example of Mac hotsync results for Checklist.
Mac Hotsync Results
 |
After installing Checklist and performing a hotsync on the Mac,
an examination of the hotsync log shows that the Checklist program
on the Palm (Checklist.prc) has been backed up to the Mac's hard
drive. Although not shown in this screen shot, the log for the next
hotsync should show that any existing checklists on the Palm have
been backed up, as well. |
 |
This Mac file structure shows an example of where to locate
files that were backed up from the Palm to the Mac. Your file structure
may vary. Certainly the names of user folders will be different.
In this example, the folder Test represents a
user named Test on the Palm.
Notice that Checklist.prc (the Palm program file), Sams List.pdb,
and TRAVEL.pdb (checklists) have been backed up to the Mac by
Hotsync Manager.
