How Do People Use Checklist?

In addition to people who use Checklist in ordinary ways (grocery lists, travel lists, etc.), I've heard from folks who've found creative (and serious) uses for my program. Here are some of them. If you have a different (unusual, out-of-the-ordinary) use for Checklist, I'd love to hear from you.

This person's e-mail is the reason Checklist has the picture feature.

I work as a therapist with individuals with brain injury and often use a PDA as a memory and task initiation and follow-through support. Checklist is just wonderful for making step-by-step instructions for tasks the client is either just learning or requires external aid in order to complete.

Some of my clients, though, have a great deal of trouble reading but respond very well to picture based task lists. Is it even within the realm of possibility to assign a picture to display along with each checklist step? This would be incredibly helpful.

I work in a PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). We're the ones that keep the angels at bay when children are at their worst. Often, we have little boys and girls that have had heart surgery staying in our unit. The amount of equipment that is required to be set up is phenomenal and very diverse based upon the age of the child. But, now with Checklist, I can create lists of gear to be setup in a room based upon the age/weight/condition of the child. This has proved to be a tremendous time saver for me and a helpful assurance that something won't be missed in the setup.

I use it to check off what production lines are running in our manufacturing facility when doing my daily start of shift walk around. Sure helps me keep track of things.

I take a lot of different medication and also needed to keep my contacts and doctor appointments up to date. I really like your software and saw the potential for using it to help me remember what medications I had taken for the day. I take so many different meds and at different times that I couldn't remember which ones I had taken. And as you can imagine that was probably not the best thing in the world to do when you have medical problems such as mine.

I work doing maintenance of machines. I have a checklist of the clients that must be visited each month, so I can see which ones are ready.

I'm an astronomer and frequently travel to remote sites in Colorado to setup "telescope camp" and do my observing.

With all of my telescope gear, computers, cameras, cables, reference books, clothing, food, and everything else that goes with camping I've got hundreds of items I need to remember to pack.

Well, after a couple of years of sitting at the kitchen table and redoing my telescope camp list each time I went out, I endeavoured to find a software tool to keep me organized. Sure I tried creating lists in Word, Excel, and even using the Todo list on my Palm. All of them lacked serious "list" features that I needed.

Well, I found Checklist and haven't needed anything else in the last 3 years since I started using it.

Although this person's use is for grocery and packing lists, his reason for using it is interesting. What he calls a hut is a pretty nice lodge in the Swiss Alps! Follow the link below and be jealous of the setting. Although the page is in German, you'll get the idea when you see the pictures. If you really want to read the page, you can go to the Google web page translator and enter the page's URL. If I'm reading it right, you can rent the place for a weekend for about $500 (310 Euros on 7-19-08). Of course, you have to get there first!

I am not a caterer, I am a programmer and Unix teacher. But I act in my free time as caretaker of a hut in the mountains, the Rietlig, and I then cook for the guests: http://www.rietlig.ch (scroll down the page for pics) If you come one day to Switzerland, you are cordially invited to come and visit me there...

A school librarian, who sees many different classes each day, has a checklist for each class with the names of the students. He uses his checklists to make sure he has called on each student at least once during their library period.

Planning a Wedding

I love your checklist program on my Palm Z22. I downloaded it the other day and am already using it to write grocery lists and plan my upcoming wedding.
