Checklist Program for
Windows and Palm OS Handhelds

Checklist is a program that runs on both the Windows and Palm operating system to help you manage lists of repetitive tasks. There are three components:

1. a Windows program for creating and manipulating checklists on your personal computer,
2. a handheld program for creating and manipulating checklists on your Palm-based handheld (OS 3.5 or higher), and
3. a sync component for syncronizing the PC and handheld data.

How is Checklist Different than the Built-in Tasks Application?

The built-in Tasks application (known as the To Do List in older systems) is typically used to enter solitary tasks that must be accomplished. Once accomplished, the tasks are checked-off and forgotten about. In contrast, Checklist is used to create permanent lists of action items that can be used again and again--for example, a shopping list.

Is Checklist Free?

It depends. Until recently, everything about Checklist was free.

Free

The Palm component continues to be free. If you are not concerned about having the extra processing power and convenience of creating and editing on your PC, being able to hotsync back and forth between the two, or being able to print lists, then there is no cost to simply use the program on your Palm.

Not Free, But Pretty Close

Beginning with PC version 1.53, the PC components for Checklist are shareware. You may use these components free for 30 days. After that, you are asked to pay a modest amount to license the program. The registered PC components allow you to:

  • create checklists on your PC,
  • add pictures to your list items,
  • use color,
  • print lists,
  • unlock extra features on the Palm,
  • update both your Palm and PC lists to be compatible with newer versions, and
  • hotsync lists between your computer and Palm.

Important Bug Fix News

Version 1.63 fixes two bugs that affect usability and fix device reset problems.

  • Fixed possible bug during key presses. This doesn't affect any of the models I own and have tested the change on, but may help those with models who have reported trouble with device resets during exit of the program.
  • Fixed a bug that crashes the Palm during exit if checklist names are over 15 characters long. Now names up to 20 characters are allowed.
